In the extreme modern world, we face an environment full of changes and turbulence, and often feel "uneasy" and "unbalanced". However, the wisdom of the traditional classic "The Doctrine of the Mean" can actually become the perspective and guide for us to look at our current life.
Mr. Qian Mu once pointed out: "Most people think that the golden mean means being approachable, not unconventional, not shocking, harmonious and compromise, and not going to extremes. However, this is a popular meaning, not a correct meaning." So, what is the true meaning of “golden mean”? In fact, "The Doctrine of the Mean" is not just as simple as "taking the middle", but teaches us how to adjust our mentality and behavior according to the time, events, and local conditions, so as to maintain internal and external harmony. Through the cultivation of "sincerity" and "clear sincerity", we can remain calm, rational, stable and tolerant in a chaotic world, further understand ourselves, discover our true heart and happiness, and finally find a way to feel at ease, settle down and establish a life.
For this reason, this issue of the "Lecture on the Four Books and Moral Education" of "Sushulou Lecture Hall" is centered around "The Doctrine of the Mean", and Professor Xin Yiyun is invited to give the lecture. Teacher Xin is a close student of Mr. Qian Mu. He is widely loved by everyone and has a profound understanding of Confucianism, aesthetics, philosophy and traditional culture.
