🌄"Blessings from Su Shulou" Qian Mu's former residence wishes all teachers, classmates and friends a happy Teacher's Day in the Year of Jiachen!
A few days before Teachers' Day in the 52nd year of the Republic of China (1963), in Mr. Qian Mu's office, a group of young scholars from Germany were asking questions to the elderly dean. During their visit to Hong Kong and Taiwan this time, they saw with their own eyes that Confucius' thoughts were still being passed down. They couldn't help but wonder whether the inheritance of these words from 2,500 years ago was for the sake of retrospect, or was it the creation of another new set of meanings?
In response, Mr. Qian pointed out with a smile that it was neither. He gave an analogy: In ancient times, students may only have one or two teachers in their lifetime, but modern people may have hundreds of teachers in their study process, not to mention modern universities, which are like hundreds of schools of thought teaching in the same academy. Industry. Although the relationship between teachers and students and the teaching environment have been greatly different from the past, many teachers still have the self-esteem and consciousness of being role models, students still respect teachers to a certain extent, and society still has an ideal and expectation for education. Mr. Qian said that the reason why Confucius's words are passed down has nothing to do with whether they are new or old, but because they contain principles and values that do not change with the times and circumstances and are aspirational for people.
Later, Mr. Qian wrote in "A New Interpretation of the Analects" that he believed that even in another 2,500 years, people would still be happy because of learning and growing, happy when friends visit, and when others do not understand them, they hope to be able to Don't get angry or sad about it. He said that this is the reason why Confucius’s birthday and Teacher’s Day are still worthy of our commemoration.
Qian Mu’s Former Residence would like to take this memorable day to express its special thanks to all the teachers for their hard work and dedication! I also wish all teachers, classmates and friends that they can always be "joyful, happy and not bored" in their lives!
