Mr. Lu Simian (1884-1957) was an important historian and educator in modern China. He is rigorous in his studies and has read the Twenty-Four Histories many times, but he is not satisfied with the textual research of Qianjia and Jia, but is committed to mastering them. He advocated that learning should be combined with reality, and opposed learning for the sake of learning, but he stayed away from politics and remained indifferent all his life. He once stated: "I have set up my own life and always follow the ancient sages and bureaucrats as a model", but he also said that he "deeply admires" Marxism-Leninism. However, as we all know, Mr. Lu is undoubtedly a scholar who is recognized as diligent, honest and well-known. Therefore, these seemingly tortuous thinking and attitudes above actually not only reflect a specific context of the times, but also demonstrate a transcendent life model.
"History of Qin and Han Dynasties" is the second book of Mr. Lu Simian's series on the history of Chinese dynasties. It was first published by Kaiming Bookstore in Shanghai in March 1947. This book maintains the consistent characteristics of Mr. Lu's writing, that is, using detailed official history as the material, on a solid foundation, it reflects the author's unique problem observation and profound insight. For example, the beginning of this book points out: "Scholars of self-government history all regard Zhou and Qin as one of the great boundaries of historical events. Especially in terms of politics, if in terms of social organization, it should be based on the relationship between Xin and Han. Between is a big world", sharply and accurately judged the inconsistency of the history of the two Han Dynasties. For another example, at the end of the 20th century, the study of "living history" became popular in the field of historiography. In "History of the Qin and Han Dynasties", Mr. Lu has already discussed the life of the people in the Qin and Han Dynasties. "Bury", "traffic", "industry" and other aspects. These innovative insights and developments not only benefit current and future scholars, but also serve as a link between the past and the future from the perspective of academic history.
Mr. Lu later commented on this book, and thought that he was more satisfied with the following: "The people in the Western Han Dynasty advocated reform until Xinmang; and Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty respected Confucianism, which was the beginning of the transition to conceptualism without reforming the social system; the truth about the rise of Confucianism ; prices in the Qin and Han Dynasties and the number of rich people and wages; elections, criminal law, and religious chapters all have their own characteristics", which can be said to be impartial. Historian Yang Kuan once pointed out: "History of the Qin and Han Dynasties" is connected with "History of the Pre-Qin" and is an independent book. Because the author has worked hard on "Historical Records", "Hanshu", and "Three Kingdoms", for this The narration and analysis of various aspects of the history of the period are solid and coherent."
