Mr. Lu Simian (1884-1957) was an important historian and educator in modern China. He is rigorous in his studies and has read the Twenty-Four Histories many times, but he is not satisfied with the textual research of Qianjia and Jia, but is committed to mastering them. He advocated that learning should be combined with reality, and opposed learning for the sake of learning, but he stayed away from politics and remained indifferent all his life. He once stated: "I have set up my own life and always follow the ancient sages and bureaucrats as a model", but he also said that he "deeply admires" Marxism-Leninism. However, as we all know, Mr. Lu is undoubtedly a scholar who is recognized as diligent, honest and well-known. Therefore, these seemingly tortuous thinking and attitudes above actually not only reflect a specific context of the times, but also demonstrate a transcendent life model.

Mr. Lu Simian once discussed the differences between the four academic departments in ancient China and believed: "Books that mainly record phenomena are called histories; books that study phenomena and invent axioms are called Jing and Zi." Among them, "Books that mainly record phenomena are called Jing and Zi." "Moreover, because it is highly respected by traditional scholarship, it has been widely circulated and has detailed annotations, making it easier for subsequent students to study. Therefore, Mr. Lu pointed out: "The classics come first and then the disciples, and we must study and seek good methods from ancient books."

Mr. Lu Simian first published the book "Jingzi Jiejie" in 1926, which was included in the "Small Series of Chinese Studies" series of the Shanghai Commercial Press. In his later years, he commented on this book, "It can be used as a reference for discussing methods of reading ancient books, researching ancient books, and inferring the origins of ancient academic schools." In fact, not long ago in 1923, when Mr. Lu was teaching at Suzhou No. 1 Normal University, he compiled a class lecture "Summary of Qun Jing" and printed it out to students in the form of a mimeographed version. The editor of "Complete Works" said about this book, "Mr. Lu studied the Classics from the perspective of historical development. Therefore, the book "Summary of Classics" is more like a concise history of classics and academic history. There are many unique features of Mr. Lu. insights."

These two works are mutually reinvented, but are related but not identical. Both are now included in 16 volumes of "The Complete Works". They not only demonstrate Mr. Lu's unique insights into classics and ancient calligraphy, but also record the pulse of the times in the transformation of old learning and educational reform, and are worthy of combined discussion. At 14:00 pm on August 24, 2013, we invite everyone to read with Mr. Fu Kechang, to see Mr. Lu’s interpretation of the historical perspective into the study of Confucian classics, and to get a glimpse of the classroom world of students at that time.
