Mr. Lu Simian (1884-1957) was an important historian and educator in modern China. He was rigorous in his academic research and read the Twenty-Four Histories many times, but he was not satisfied with the Qianlong and Jiaqing textual research, but was committed to integrating it into his own thinking. He advocated that learning should be combined with reality and opposed academic pursuit for the sake of academic pursuit. However, he stayed away from politics and lived a simple life. He once said: "In conducting myself, I always take the ancient sages and scholars as my role models", but he also said that he was "deeply convinced" of Marxism-Leninism. However, it is well known that Mr. Lu is diligent and honest in his studies and is undoubtedly a scholar with his own unique ideas. Therefore, these seemingly tortuous thoughts and attitudes mentioned above actually reflect a specific context of the times and also demonstrate a transcendent life type.

It is different from "political history" which is centered on people and events, and it is also different from "political system history" which is based on codes and regulations. "Political thoughts" exist in people's minds and sometimes may not be published in books, so it is really difficult to verify. However, if we believe that "thought" does have the power to shape people's ideas and values, then the development of "political thought" is undoubtedly the undercurrent of the rise and fall of overall political change. Only by understanding the evolution of ideas can we further grasp the root causes of events and structural changes.

However, as Mr. Lu Simian said, although China has a lot of historical materials on politics, most of them are opinions on actual government affairs. Therefore, to study China's political thought, it is not easy unless we synthesize the doctrines of a thinker and understand his fundamental political propositions through his actual discussions.

In the winter of 1935, Mr. Lu gave a series of lectures at Guanghua University in Shanghai on the theme of the history of Chinese political thought. His daughter Lu Yiren recorded them and published them in nine issues of Guanghua University Bimonthly. In the 1980s, Mr. Lu Yiren proofread and edited the original manuscript, which was subsequently reprinted one after another. Finally, it was revised again when compiling the "Complete Works" and included in the 16th volume. Mr. Lu divided the eras into periods and explained in a concise and easy manner the problems faced by each era and the political thoughts that are causally related to them. On February 22, 2015 at 14:00, we invite everyone to come to the classroom and read "Ten Lectures on the History of Chinese Political Thought" with Professor Fu Kechang to see how this historian accurately addresses the topic and grasps the key points in this small book, and through the serious pursuit of academic issues, puts forward his opinions and concerns about reality.
